Definition and Usage
The fgets() function returns a line from an open file.
The fgets() function stops returning on a new line, at the specified length, or at EOF, whichever comes first.
This function returns FALSE on failure.
Syntax
fgets(file,length)
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| file | Required. Specifies the file to read from |
| length | Optional. Specifies the number of bytes to read. Default is 1024 bytes. |
Example 1

$file = fopen("test.txt","r");
echo fgets($file);
fclose($file);
?>
The output of the code above will be:
Hello, this is a test file.
Example 2
Read file line by line:

$file = fopen("test.txt","r");
while(! feof($file))
{
echo fgets($file). "<br />";
}
fclose($file);
?>
The output of the code above will be:
Hello, this is a test file.
There are three lines here.
This is the last line.
